Electrical services and fault finding in Budapest and Pest County

Emergency (SOS) electrical call-out across Budapest and Pest County

Do you smell burning? Can you see smoke, is a socket sparking, has a plug melted? Switch off the supplier's miniature circuit breaker below the meter, stop using the affected circuit and call me. If a fire breaks out, dial the 112 emergency number immediately.

General fault finding

Has the fuse tripped? Is the circuit breaker humming? Is one room without power, is a light flickering, or is a socket getting warm? The cause may be a short circuit or a loose connection. The latter is common with twisted joints, for example, even though their use has been prohibited since 1914.

Consumer unit replacement

Screw-in fuses, an overcrowded and impenetrable old fuse board? Let us replace it with a modern consumer unit: new miniature circuit breakers, an RCD and a surge arrester where required and feasible, and a balanced load across the phases.

Adding new circuits

Is the washing machine running off an extension lead? Are there too few kitchen sockets? Has a new high-consumption appliance joined the household? Is one adaptor plugged into another? That is the textbook cause of house fires. I install new circuits from the consumer unit to the required connection point, either chased into the wall or in trunking.

Installing an RCD (residual current device)

The miniature circuit breaker protects the cable; the residual current device protects you and your family. In a home, a type "A" 30 mA RCD on socket and lighting circuits is the current norm, and with few exceptions it can be retrofitted into an existing board. After installation the owner receives a certificate confirming correct operation.

Connecting household appliances

Induction hob, built-in oven, dishwasher, tumble dryer, air conditioner. These require an adequate conductor cross-section and, in many cases, a dedicated circuit. If they can be connected at an existing connection point, there is nothing to prevent commissioning. I connect the appliance, stamp the paperwork, say goodbye, and you can start enjoying every benefit of your new equipment.

Wiring accessories

Replacing switches, sockets, faceplates, data and TV outlets, and upgrading old accessories to modern ones. Before painting I remove them so that the decorator can work freely. Naturally the decorator is not left without lighting and power; the construction industry has an established method for this. After the work I refit everything, so no smeared faceplates or taped-over switches are left on the fresh wall.

Installing light fittings

Fitting and connecting chandeliers, ceiling LED luminaires, mirror lighting and outdoor motion-sensor lights. In bathrooms, fitting luminaires with the IP rating appropriate to the zone. Furniture lighting, LED strip power supply, dimming. With a flickering or "buzzing" LED the light source is usually not at fault; the driver or dimmer compatibility is. I also help you choose the brightness, colour temperature and colour rendering, so that your living room is not lit like a hospital.

Water heater servicing and descaling

Slow to heat up, or no hot water at all? Limescale build-up shows first on the heating element and then on your electricity bill. Does the bathwater give you a shock? Does the shower sting? In most cases the heating element has burnt through. If the water heater is protected by an RCD, this can cause tripping. There may also be a problem with the thermostat or the control unit, but a thorough examination will reveal the cause of the fault, and we will find the best solution with the right value for money.

Pre-purchase property assessment

Are you buying a flat or a house and unsure what condition the electrical installation is in? It often happens that properties are advertised with a fully refurbished electrical installation when the installation is not refurbished at all but downright dangerous. And sadly that is no exaggeration. You receive a written assessment and an estimated refurbishment cost before the sale goes through. This is not the same as the electrical safety inspection that is mandatory on sale. Of course I also carry out the full electrical safety inspection if required.
